Actinic Granuloma vs. Porokeratosis

Similarities:

  • Both conditions are triggered by chronic sun exposure and can appear in older individuals.
  • They involve lesions on sun-exposed skin, such as the arms and face.
  • Sunscreen and protective clothing are critical in managing both conditions.

Differences:

  • Actinic Granuloma forms red or brown ring-shaped lesions, often on the arms or neck, and is thought to be an inflammatory reaction to sun damage.
  • Porokeratosis causes small, raised patches with a ridge-like border, and while benign, some forms can increase the risk of skin cancer.
  • Actinic granuloma can be treated with steroids or anti-inflammatory drugs, while porokeratosis may require cryotherapy or laser treatment.
